The video-sharing platform YouTube has started taking down videos that provides instructions for unsafe abortion procedures.
On July 21, Youtube Insider published a series of tweets informing the public that they will start removing content that promotes unsafe abortion methods and videos that contains misinformation on abortion.
“Starting today and ramping up over the next few weeks, we will remove content that provides instructions for unsafe abortion methods or promotes false claims about abortion safety under our medical misinformation policies.”, the company tweeted.
A link to their misinformation policies was included in the tweet to remind people that they prohibit misleading content or deceptive content that promotes harmful remedies, treatments or substances that could result harm.
Youtube also tweeted that they rely on published guidance from health authorities.
“We prioritize connecting people to content from authoritative sources on health topics, and we continuously review our policies & products as real world events unfold.”, they tweeted.
The Google-owned company is also set to launch another information panel to provide factual health information, according to one of their tweets.
