News.com.au has recently reported that Woolworths Metro and Uber Eats have joined forces to deliver groceries within the same hour of their order, with 1,200 options for Australian customers from the feature of Woolworths Metro on the app of Uber Eats.

Justin Nolan, general manager of Woolworths Metro, promised to offer an ideal option for smaller top-up or last-minute shopping needs, adding, “Importantly, it will also help us meet the needs of customers seeking to limit their community outings during the pandemic”.

Dozen locations of Woolworths in Australia will debut on Uber Eats for holders of accounts from Sydney and Melbourne from August 30, before reaching the eastern seaboard in the coming weeks.

Branches of Woolworths Metro in Balaclava, Hadfield, and Hawthorn in Melbourne, as well as Bondi, Maroubra Beach, Padstow, Park Sydney (Erskineville), Pyrmont, Randwick, Redfern, Rose Bay, and Rozelle in Sydney will feature on Uber Eats by early next year but the partnership will not only offer direct orders from Woolworths on the app of Uber Eats.

Uber will provide more options on delivery for direct online customers from Woolworths from its direct website this month as well as solutions for delivery at the last mile to its existing online operation for retail from Brisbane and Toowoomba, before reaching other branches to help Woolworths satisfy more customers.

Lucas Groeneveld, regional general manager of Uber Eats, observed the increasing demand by customers for direct delivery as they have to stay at home due to COVID-19, adding, “This demand is only set to continue as customers increasingly look for faster delivery as the new normal… By linking up with Woolworths, Uber Eats is well positioned to usher in a new era of ease for Australian households – strengthening our platform’s appeal as the place to head to go anywhere or get anything”.

Personal shoppers from Woolworths will pack each delivery placed on Uber Eats from a virtual storefront before passing on to carriers from Uber Eats for delivery.
