Why is Manifest on Netflix canceled after the third season?

I know that all of you have been curious about Season 3 of Manifest. We have many questions on our heads about what happened and why it has been canceled. Is the ending that satisfying that it doesn’t warrant another season? Let us find out.

When Manifest first premiered on NBC back in 2018, it was perceived as a new take on the formula of Lost, which proved to be a massive hit during the 2000s. The series centered on the passengers of a commercial airline that abruptly returned after being gone for five years, with everyone aboard oblivious to what happened and unaffected by the passing of time. Similar to ABC’s Lost, at the core of Manifest was its many mysteries and the diverse group of characters from different backgrounds drawn together by this incident. It started with an airplane disappearance, but the investigations of Ben (Josh Dallas), Michaela (Melissa Roxburgh), and Saanvi (Parveen Khaur) have since led to all sorts of new dilemmas.

The creator Jeff Rake envisioned the series to have six seasons, but the premature finale of Season 3 means fans will be left with some permanently unanswered questions.

When NBC announced that the supernatural drama series, Manifest, had been canceled after a serious cliffhanger in the Season 3 finale, fans hoped that the show would find a new home on a different network or a streaming service.

So why was Manifest canceled?

Last June 2021, it was revealed that NBC had canceled Manifest and the show would not be renewed for a fourth season.

Since Season 1 of Manifest, ratings have declined steadily. The second hour of the finale reached 2.6 million viewers live and on the same day, which was a series’ low.

“Manifest” was produced by Warner Bros. Television, but talks for a Season 4 between the production company and Netflix came to an end because of complicated digital rights and expired cast options, according to Deadline.

With that, Netflix has chosen not to move forward with ‘Manifest’ for Season 4.

According to the aforementioned Deadline report, though Seasons 1 and 2 were performing well on the site, Netflix decided not to continue Manifest for a fourth season.

When will Season 3 of ‘Manifest’ be on Netflix?

In Netflix’s recently released July bulletin, the company seemingly confirmed that Manifest was not on the agenda, at least for that month. However, since the two prior seasons have appeared for streaming on Netflix, it’s safe to say that fans can expect the third season to appear at some point as well.

Netflix has not announced the Manifest Season 3 release date. Their fans are hopeful that they don’t to wait too long to watch Season 3 on Netflix. NBC doesn’t have the same deal that The CW has with Netflix that brings new seasons of the shows to Netflix eight days after the season finale. Normally, NBC shows take a lot longer to arrive on Netflix after the seasons finish airing.

So, at the time of publishing, we are expecting that we all have to wait quite a while to watch Manifest season 3 on Netflix.

But if you can’t wait to watch it, Manifest Season 3 is currently streaming on Hulu, but only the third season is available.

In addition to the potential of a six-season story, fans were also disappointed because Season 3 ended with many unfinished storylines, including the death of a major character, the severe age progression of another, an unresolved love triangle, and a lack of clarity about what happened to Flight 828 in 2013.

Unfortunately, the Netflix resolution also marks the end of the discussions surrounding any possible fourth season for Manifest.
