“We’re Here” Shows Drag Queens Making A Difference In Small Towns

The series We’re Here is about three drag queens traveling throughout the United States raising awareness of their counterculture and joy to different areas’ residents. The three drag queens are Bob the Drag Queen, Eureka O’Hara, and Shangela Laquifa Wadley. Previous Ru Paul’s Drag Race contestants, these three visit small cities and towns, recruiting and preparing individuals to engage in a one-night drag show in their area.

Along the way the trio connects with the residents, especially their own trainees, and always look fabulous doing so, standing out in some of the best ways. The reactions of the residents ranges from shock, anger, confrontation, but also some awareness and exposure to different people from themselves. In Bob’s own words, “There are people in every town who don’t feel empowered to stand up and be themselves. Hopefully in doing these drag shows in these communities, we’re able to provide that feeling of look, I’m not by myself ”.

The positive connections and conversations that do arise are very powerful and moving for audiences. The artistry, confidence, and power of individuality and embracing your own special differences are the fantastic messages of this really special watch, giving exposure to the potentials of these positive behaviors and of openness to yourself and others.
