WATCH: The New Trailer of Ghostbusters: Afterlife

We now have a new trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which has been postponed several times before ultimately being released in November. This follow-up to the 1980s’ classic Ghostbusters films introduces a new generation to the series. Jason Reitman (Juno, Thank You for Smoking), son of Ivan Reitman, director of 1980s films and one of the producers of Afterlife, is directing the film.

 

Callie, a single mother with two young children, and her two children arrive in a tiny town and relocate to an old, run-down farmhouse left to them by the children’s grandfather.

 

Following a series of strange earthquakes, the family gradually learns about the grandfather’s hidden lineage and how it ties into the almost-forgotten history of the original Ghostbusters.

 

Callie is played by Carrie Coon (The Leftovers), and Phoebe is played by Mckenna Grace (The Haunting of Hill House). Trevor is played by Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things). Mr. Grooberson, a summer school teacher, is played by Paul Rudd (Ant-Man).

 

Many members of the original cast have been confirmed to reprise their roles such as Bill Murray (as Peter Venkman), Sigourney Weaver (as Dana Barrett), Dan Aykroyd (as Ray Stantz), Ernie Hudson (as Winston Zeddemore), and Annie Potts (as Janine Melnitz) are among the original cast members confirmed to participate in Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Egon Spengler was played by Harold Ramis, who died in 2014, and the first teaser (released in December 2019) made it apparent that Spengler was the children’s recently deceased grandfather. 

 

Ghostbusters: Afterlife, distributed by Columbia Pictures, will be released in the second half of 2021, after being postponed multiple times due to the COVID-19 epidemic. The premiere date has not yet been set.
