WATCH: “School 2021” with Kim Yo Han, Cho Yi Hyun & Chu Young Woo

Based on the novel, Oh, My Boys! by Lee Hyun, School 2021 is a youth drama directed by Kim Min Tae.

School 2021 will be the eighth instalment in the ‘school’ series from KBS. It will follow high school students who choose to follow their own dreams in a vocational school instead of just preparing for college entrance exams. 

The coming-of-age tale will follow the lessons of their growth, love, life and friendships while they face obstacles and uncertain futures. 

In the newly released preview, we see Gong Ki Joon (Kim Yo Han) collapsed on the floor during a Taekwondo match and wondering, “I’ve quit Taekwondo. Now what do I do?” 

On the other hand, Jin Ji Won (Cho Yi Hyun), knows exactly what she wants to do, when she declares confidently: “Ever since I was in elementary school, I’ve wanted to be a carpenter. That’s never changed.”

Gong Ki Joon and Jin Ji Won keep bumping into each other in awkward circumstances, and gossip about them arises. Gong Ki Joon then runs into Jung Young Joo (Chu Young Woo), who warns him, “Don’t talk to me. Because I don’t want to die.” This indicates they have a dark secret between them.

Jung Young Joo has a softer side with Jin Ji Won as shown by him giving her a smile. Kang Seo Young (Hwang Bo Reum Byeol) can’t take her eyes off Young Joo. This hints at a love square conflict, which is quite common for the plot of the ‘school’ series. Later, Seo Young says, “Let’s date,” to someone. 

The teaser ends with Jin Ji Won wondering about Gong Ki Joon, “He used to be so small.” And Jung Young Joo saying, “He doesn’t seem like a bad person.”
