Sweet Girl is an upcoming American action thriller film written by Philip Eisner, Gregg Hurwitz, and Will Staples and directed by Brian Andrew Mendoza in his feature directorial debut. It is starring Jason Momoa, Isabela Merced, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Raza Jaffrey, Lex Scott Davis, Amy Brenneman and Michael Raymond-James.
Brad Peyton, an executive producer on Sweet Girl and a regular collaborator with action star Dwayne Johnson, is recognized for his work on big-budget action projects. ASAP Entertainment and Pride of Gypsies handled the production.
It was always obvious that Jason Momoa would have been the perfect choice for great muscular action on the film – but he was frequently challenged with huge fantasy landscapes like Aquaman and Game of Thrones rather than getting his hands filthy in fast-stroke fighting. His next project, though, is more realistic stuff — Netflix’s revenge thriller Sweet Girl, in which Momoa swaps aqua for normal action, with a side of drama thrown in for good measure. According to the official summary supplied by the streaming service, the film follows Momoa plays as Ray Cooper here, a dedicated family man who undertakes justice to remove a possibly live-saving medicine off the market against this huge pharmaceutical corporation shortly before his woman (Adria Arjona) dies of cancer.
However, Ray’s pursuit for the truth leads to a violent confrontation that puts him and his daughter Rachel (Isabela Merced) in danger. Ray’s goal becomes a quest for revenge in order to defend the only family he has remained.
Netflix plans to release it on August 20, 2021.
