Warwick Davis’ Willow

A sequel to the hit 1988 fantasy movie, Willow is officially in the works. Starring Warwick Davis, who is famous for his characters, including Griphook and Professor Flitwick in Harry Potter, the villainous leprechaun in Leprechaun, and a collection of Star Wars characters, though he is mainly known for playing Wicket, one of the Ewoks.

It’s exciting to have the actor back to reprise his role; the show wouldn’t be the same without him. After all, it is named after his character, Willow.

Willow 1988

In the film, a young farmer finds a baby floating down a stream, and when danger comes to his village in search of the girl, Willow sets out on a journey to find her a family who can protect her from the Evil Sorceress Queen who is hunting her. Along the way, he meets a mercenary (Madmartigan) who joins his cause and the daughter of the Sorceress Queen (Sorcha) who is a foe turned ally.

The new show follows some new characters, with the plot revolving around a princess who is joined by Willow and a group as they set out on a quest “into the unknown” to find her twin brother. Whether this Princess is the same baby from the original movie is unknown, but it would make sense. Little more is known about the show, however, a trailer recently dropped, so fans might glean more from a quick watch.

Warwick Davis isn’t the only original actor returning, with a recent announcement adding Joanne Whalley who played Sorcha to the cast. Val Kilmer, who played Madmartigan, will not be reprising his role because of his recent battle with throat cancer. However, his character is said to still be involved in the show in a ‘big’ way.
