Walking In The Wind: A Story of Goodbyes, Maturing, and Reminiscence

It has been a while since One Direction decided to hiatus as a band. The hiatus that was supposed to be 18 months long turned out to be longer than expected. Until now, there is no update regarding the future of One Direction as each member is currently pursuing their solo career.

Although the band might be not here anymore, their music stays forever.

During their active years as a group, One Direction has released five albums: Up All Night, Take Me Home, Midnight Memories, Four, and Made in the A.M.

Made in the A.M. is their latest album that was released on November 12, 2015. This was also their first album after Zayn left the group. One of the songs from the album is called ‘Walking in the Wind’.

Walking in the Wind was written by Jamie Scott, Julian Bunetta, Harry Styles, and John Ryan. If this song should be described in three words, it would be ‘goodbyes’, ‘maturing’, and ‘reminiscence’.

Goodbyes. People experienced a ‘goodbye’ at least once in a lifetime. Being apart from the loved one, leaving hometown, graduating from school, continuing education in another place, resigning from work, everything is ended with a goodbye. It is not always a sad thing. For some reason, it could be an exciting moment, the most awaited moment in life to start a new chapter. That is why, goodbye is bittersweet, but goodbye does not always mean leaving forever. Sometimes it is just temporary and when the time is right, reuniting will take place even in the most impossible time or place, for a reason that could never be understood.

Goodbyes are bittersweet

But it’s not the end

I’ll see your face again

And you will find me

Yeah, you will find me

In places that we’ve never been

For reasons we don’t understand

Maturing. Realizing that everything will eventually come to a change is part of maturing. Nothing lasts forever, nothing stays in the way that we like. Accepting the fact that some people are not meant to stay in our lives forever and understanding the reason even when it is unreasonable are also part of maturing. It is hard sometimes, but slowly, time will shape us and give us a better understanding of the way life works.

The fact that we can sit right here and say goodbye

Means we’ve already won

A necessity for apologies between you and me

Baby, there is none

When everything is not the same as how it was and we finally can accept the reality, reminiscing is the last thing that we can do to remember those days. People change, situations change, but memories remain the same forever.

We had some good times, didn’t we?

We wore our hearts out on our sleeve

Goodbyes are bittersweet

But it’s not the end

I’ll see your face again

Despite its deep meaning, ‘Walking in the Wind’ delivers its message with a unique conversation-like style and well-written lyrics. The melody is very catchy and easy listening. It will make you fall in love at first listen.

If you’re lost, just look for me

You’ll find me in the region of the summer stars

The fans believed that ‘Walking in the Wind’ is based on the story of Harry and Zayn’s long phone call before Zayn decided to leave the band. However, Harry Styles never really reveals the meaning behind this song.

Yeah, you will find me

In places that we’ve never been

For reasons we don’t understand

Walking in the wind

Even if we are not together anymore, just like the wind, my support and prayer will always be by your side although you can’t see it.
