The UK has recorded 96 more deaths from coronavirus, according to the latest update from the government’s coronavirus dashboard. This is the highest daily total for this measure in nearly four months (since March 24, when 98 deaths were recorded). And, the total number of deaths in the last week increased by 60.6% compared to the total of the previous week.
There were also 46,558 new cases. Week after week, new cases increased by 40.7%.
For the second consecutive day, the number of new cases is higher than the number of first doses of vaccine administered yesterday (35,670). With 88% of the UK adult population now vaccinated with at least one dose, one would expect some slowdown in the rate at which the first few doses are administered.
Justin Madders, a shadow Health Minister, suggested that Labor could vote against plans to make vaccine passports mandatory for people who want to go to nightclubs. The party must review the legislation before making a final decision.
