Cactus Jack Films by Travis Scott o n his new album is teaming with A24, the studio behind ‘Moonlight,’ ‘Lady Bird,’ and ‘Midsommar,’ among other films.
According to Variety, the rapper’s much awaited album, ‘Utopia,’ which is due out later this year, will serve as the foundation for the companies’ first collaboration. The record is the artist’s first since ‘Astroworld,’ which was released in 2018.
Scott shared an image of a script in its early draft on Instagram, with the word ‘Utopia’ partially erased. “Life is a movie, So is this album,” he wrote. “@cactusjack and @a24 set out to bring amazing content for the future. Thru film and media. Starting with this.”
If we know anything about Travis, we can guess that this contract with A24 will entail a lot more than just a script: It’s easy to imagine tie-in tote bags, mugs, and an extreme food pack at the concession stand if this thing ever makes it to a theater. But, for now, let’s concentrate on this script, which may or may not exist, and contemplate what type of movie it could become.
Scott’s new song, “Escape Plan,” debuted at Rolling Loud Miami last week. He performed the song while a squadron of drones projected a QR code into the sky with a pre-download link for the song, however no release date has been established. Coachella’s 2020 festival had been announced as a headliner, but it was later canceled owing to the coronavirus pandemic, only to be rescheduled this year. New dates have been scheduled, although it’s unclear whether he’ll be on the bill this time.
