After the second film of Fantastic Beasts, Warner Bros finally revealed the teaser for the third film of Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. On Monday, Warner Bros dropped its teaser featuring casts from the previous installment and unveiled that the film will be released in April next year.
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore is set in the 1930s. In the film, Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) and his friend, Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler), are on a mission. Their mission will lead them to Grindelwald. Those two are sent by Albus Dumbledore. As Grindelwald’s power grows rapidly, the Wizarding World is involved in World War II. Hence, Newt needs to stop Grindelwald and his army.
Directed by David Yates, the screenplay of Fantastic Beasts’ third film was written by Harry Potter’s author, J. K. Rowling, together with Steve Kloves. The story is based on Rowling’s book which is about magical creatures in the Harry Potter universe. The film was planned to be a trilogy, but Rowling claimed that there will be five films.
During the production, the character of Gellert Grindelwald was re-casted. Due to the negative publicity of a libel case, Johnny Depp was asked to resign by Warner Bros. He will no longer play as Grindelwald. On November 25th, Warner Bros announced that Mads Mikkelsen had been chosen to replace Depp as Gellert Grindelwald.
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore also features Jude Law as Albus Dumbledore, Ezra Miller as Credence Barebone, Katherin Waterston as Tina Goldstein, and Alison Sudol as Queenie Goldstein. The film is planned to be released on April 8th, 2022 in the United Kingdom and on April 15th in the United States.
