Top 5 Vietnam-War Movies

The Vietnam War or known as Indochina War II, was a conflict that happened in Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos from 1 November 1955 to 30 April 1975 (around 19 years). It was officially fought between South Vietnam and North Vietnam.

The main reason Vietnam War happened was because the USA was scared that communists spread across the Asia continent.

 

1. Apocalypse Now (1979)

From The Godfather’s director Francis Ford Coppola, based on the book Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. Apocalypse Now is considered one of the greatest movies ever made. It follows Colonel Walter E. Kurtz who lost his morality, in the border of Cambodia he is worshipped by Cambodian troops. So Captain Benjamin L. Willard was sent to eliminate him.

2. Full Metal Jacket (1987)

Directed and produced by Stanley Kubrick, the movie is based on a novel called The Short-Timers by Gustav Hasford.  It follows a group of US Marine trained by Gunney Sergeant Hartman, but he uses rough methods to turn the platoon ready to war. It will involve a lot of dramatic scenes and conversations with each character.

3. The Deer Hunter (1978)

The story is about a trio of Russian-American Mike Vronsky, Steven Pushkov, and Nick Chevotarevich as steelworkers but they joined military service in Vietnam. Mike suddenly reunited with Steve and Nick, but they were captured by Viet Cong troops along with other soldiers. They were forced to play a Russian roulette game with a ruthless punishment.

4. Danger Close: The Battle of Long Tan (2019)

A true story about the Battle of Long Tan in the Vietnam War follows a 1st Australian Task Force attacked with mortar by the People’s Army of Vietnam and Viet Cong, while attacked they were ordered by Major Harry Smith to take cover and be careful. Some of the troops didn’t take it seriously, they even played cards and drank beer. The character in this movie has to struggle with the ruthless attack of Vietnam troops.

5. Da 5 Bloods (2020)

Directed by Spike Lee, it follows four retired veterans of the Vietnam War searching for their squad leader. In the present day, Otis, Eddie, Paul, and Melvin meet up in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. They heard that a recent landslide in Ho Chi Minh City uncovered the crashed plane and they planned to find their squad leader body (Norman) and also a treasure they believed buried along with the crashed plane.
