‘TITANE’ (2021): One of the most bizarre and unsettling films at the Cannes Film Festival

“Titane” is executive produced by Christophe Hollebeke and produced by Jean-Christophe Reymond, with co-producers Olivier Père, Jean-Yves Roubin, and Cassandre Warnauts. Philippe Logie serves as an associate producer, while Anne-Laure Declerck serves as an assistant producer. The winner of the 2011 Cannes Film Festival’s ‘Petit Rail d’Or’ was Ducournau, a French director, for her short, ‘Junior.’ Her debut feature was the “Raw” from 2016, a horror-thriller that received an award in Cannes too.

Agathe Rousselle, Vincent Lindon, Garance Marillier, Las Salameh, Mara Cisse, Marin Judas, Diong-Kéba Tacu, Myriem Akheddiou, and Bertrand Bonello feature in a body-bending horror film.

Synopsis

Exia and her family are going into a vehicle collision and her skull is fixed with a titanium plate. She shuns the vehicles in recovering her parents. Alexia as an adult still loves cars, showcasing her skull scar and a profanely obscene chest tattoo as a sexed showgirl at a motor show. As the most sexual showgirl, both ladies and men look after her, although her fan is cruel. The vehicles are their most sexual flavor and her stomach blooms fast and is impregnated with a hybrid kid.

“Titane” is a human Transformer, and this implant might be her first update. The film never explains what effect the procedure had on Alexia, but it appears to relish the concept that she is both shattered and strengthened as a result of it. She may be a lustful serial murderer herself, however, it’s worth noting that she’s considerably more interested in metal than flesh.

Perhaps Ducournau was too successful in portraying Alexia’s feminine side early on, making it difficult for spectators to adjust when the protagonists decide to reverse gears. We can sense the film building to a huge surprise, at which time we’ll find out what Alexia is carrying in her womb, but the film never provides us the skills to understand that twist. The shock of “Titane” can be enough at times.

It will be released in the United States on October 1, 2021. Previously released in France on July 14, 2021.
