The promo trailer for the new Addams Family adaptation Wednesday has just dropped. And with it comes the announcement that Jenna Ortega (You, The Babysitter: Killer Queen) is stepping into Wednesdays’ shoes. With the promo now out, it shouldn’t be long before more information on the release of the 8-episode tv show drops.
But what we do know so far, is that it follows the well-loved Addams, as she attends school, all the while attempting to “master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships of the strange and diverse student body.”
Also part of the cast is the original Wednesday herself, Christina Ricci in a yet-untitled role. Joining her will be other big names like Kathrine Zeta-Jones (Chicago, Mask of Zorro), playing Morticia Addams; Luis Guzman (Boogie Nights, The Count of Monte Cristo) as Gomez Addams; and rounding out the star-studded cast is Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones, Star Wars)
With the show being described as a “sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery” this is bound to be a more modern adaptation of the beloved family, and with Tim Burton at the helm, the already spooky story is bound to be even more so. Fans can’t help but hope that Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter, staples of Burton’s works, appear in some way in his new show.
It isn’t just Tim Burton involved in Wednesday, the men behind Smallville, the popular superman tv show from the early 2000s, are also involved in the show. With these names involved, Wednesday is sure to be a hit.
Other popular iterations of the Addams Family are as follows; The Addams Family (1964), The Addams Family (1973), The Addams Family (1992) and The Addams Family Values (1993), The New Addams Family (1998), and the recent animated films, The Addams Family (2019) and The Addams Family 2 (2021).
This doesn’t include the also amazing Youtube series Adult Wednesday Addams, which isn’t officially a part of the Addams Family brand but is nonetheless popular with fans.
