Project Gutenberg provides thousands of free eBooks that you can download right away. Project Gutenberg was founded back in 1971 by Michael S. Hart. The project is run by volunteers around the world.

Most of the collections here are the full public domain textbooks, so it’s 100% legal. The library also contains works in other languages as well.

The collections are available in various formats, the available formats are HTML, EPUB, MOBI, and audiobooks for some collections. If you want to read directly on the browser, choose HTML format. EPUB format for reading on an eBook reader or eBook reading applications. MOBI format for Amazon Kindle users. And even some collections have audiobooks available if you’re too lazy to read.

My favourite feature is “Random books”. This feature randomly shows 20 books. This feature is helpful for those who want some eBook recommendations.

If you want to help the project you can volunteer as a proofreader through Distributed Proofreaders. You can also donate to support the project.
