The US Imposes Sanctions On Two Of Putin’s Daughters And Russia’s Largest Bank.

The US announces new sanctions against Russia. Sanctions target two of Vladimir Putin’s daughters by his ex-wife; Maria Vorontsova and Katerina Tikhonova.

The new sanctions also target the wife and daughter of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and members of Russia’s Security Council, including former Russian President and Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

The White House said the sanctions, which will add pressure to the Russian economy and its elite, were carried out because the US accused them of enriching themselves and sacrificing the Russian people.

“Some of them are responsible for providing support to Putin to invade Ukraine,” the White House said in a statement.

The US believed these people knew and helped hide Putin’s assets.

“And that’s why we targeted them,” a senior US official told reporters, referring to the two girls.

In addition to these figures, the White House also imposed sanctions on Russia’s leading public and private banks. The sanctions were carried out by completely blocking access to Russia’s largest public and private financial institutions, Sberbank and Alfa Bank.

The US also banned all their corporate investments in Russia. They said new sanctions would be announced this Thursday (7/4) on Russia’s main state companies.

The sanctions are aimed at hampering the ability of Russian companies to trade and move money through the global financial system.

“The sickening brutality at Bucha tragically highlights the despicable nature of the Putin regime,” the official said.
