Seemingly darker than his previous comedies but appearing just as entertaining, audiences can now look forward to Will Ferrell’s next work, tv-series The Shrink Next Door this next week on November 12th. The series will be streaming on Apple TV+. It has been in the works since it was announced in February 2020.
In The Shrink Next Door, Will Ferrell stars as Martin “Marty” Markowitz, a longtime patient of therapist Dr. Isaac “Ike” Herschkopf, (played by Paul Rudd). Their seemingly typical patient-therapist relationship appears to take many turns throughout the episodes, morphing into a much deeper toxic relationship of control, weakness, vulnerability, and altered reality. How will these two main characters influence, exploit, and manipulate each other throughout this dark comedy miniseries?
Following the example of other series, The Shrink Next Door will be presenting viewers with a good taste of the plot, characters, and chaos with its first three episodes dropping on November 12th. The series is limited, however, with only 8 episodes altogether. After November 12th, subsequent single episodes will be released every Friday.
Directing the tv series is Michael Showalter. Talented actors Kathryn Haun and Casey Wilson have also been cast in leading roles as Phyllis Markowitz and Bonnie Herschkopf. The series is adapted from the true-crime podcast of the same name by journalist and author Joe Nocera. The 10-episode podcast similarly tells the story of the same Dr. Isaac Herschkopf, a psychiatrist who takes advantage of his relationships with his patients for personal gain.
