The Return of the Swinging Sixties

The 1960s was a decade of beautiful, dreamy makeup looks!

Recently, there’s been a surge of 60’s inspired makeup on TikTok and Instagram. Feeling inspired to create your own 60’s inspired looks?

Here are some 1960’s icons and their iconic makeup styles.

Twiggy has one of the most recognizable faces in the makeup world. With a doll face and big, round eyes, she certainly made sure you were drawn to her.

One of Twiggy’s most iconic makeup looks started with a bright blue base and dark brown eyeliner around the edge. What made Twiggy’s eyes the focal point of her face was using individual fake eyelashes on her lower lash line! This made her eyes captivating and certainly is a look that will bring you compliments.

Sharon Tate

Sharon Tate had a similar makeup style to Twiggy but was more monochromatic. If you want a less dramatic look, this is the option for you!

Eyeliner is optional, but start with a plain eyeshadow base and draw a line below your brow bone along the crease of your eyelid.

I like to use brown eyeliner or eyeshadow for the top line, and black eyeshadow for a softer wing if choosing to do eyeliner. She also used brown eyeshadow on her lower lash line to enhance her doe eyes. Sharon had long, fluttery eyelashes so definitely incorporate this into your makeup to look like an angel!

Brigitte Bardot

Brigitte Bardot- what more is there to say? Effortless, beautiful, timeless! Sixties makeup focuses heavily on the eyes, and Brigitte popularised the cat-eye look.

Brigitte’s eye makeup was all about the eyeliner rather than her eyelashes and was sharper and darker.

Cat eyeliner looks are easier if you keep your eyes open, follow your natural eyelid shape, and draw upwards, towards the end of your eyebrow.

She also had a thick, dark waterline and lower lash line for a more chic, mature look.
