“The Pirates 2” Surpassed 1 Million Moviegoers

“The Pirates: Goblin Flag” managed to reach 1 million viewers in South Korean theaters. Directed by Kim Jeong-Hoon, this film became the first South Korean film of 2022 to reach more than 1 million moviegoers. This film is about the adventures of pirates who gather at sea and search for the treasures of the kingdom that have been lost without a trace.

“The Pirates: Goblin Flag”, which was originally released on January 26, 2022, only took ten days to break the record. This achievement is even more extraordinary considering that the South Korean government is enforcing strict social distancing rules in cinemas due to COVID-19. Despite competing with various domestic and foreign films, this film has also solidified its position at the top of the box office for ten consecutive days since its release. With a budget of US$19,609, this film succeeds to sell 475,407 tickets on 1,703 screens, which is equivalent to US$3.7 million.

The Pirates: Goblin Flag is a comedy action-adventure film about a group of fortune-seekers who go down to the high seas in search of lost treasure. The film tells the story of a group of people gathering on a ship to find the last treasure of the Goryeo royal family which disappeared without a trace after the kingdom was replaced by Joseon.
