Mike Richards was elected as Alex Tribek’s successor as host of ‘Jeopardy,’ although he only lasted for one taping. This was because of the discovery of his controversial previous remarks on the website, The Ringer.
The comments in questions pertained to Richards’ offensive language regarding women as ‘little people’. Due to worry about controversy over the previous comments in such a high tension, modern environment, Mike Richards quits being the host of ‘Jeopardy’.
However, Richards still plays a role in the future of ‘Jeopardy’ as an executive producer.
The company in question, Sony, has refused to comment on the matter. The apology made by Richards, however, was not so well received as many argued over social media whether or not Richards should be accountable to his actions and words, regardless of whether they are present or past tense.
There is also the controversy over whether fans would have been as receptive to Richards if not for the already placed debate over who should host ‘Jeopardy’. The belief that LeVar Burton would host the quiz show was enough to have a lot of fans excited over the new direction of ‘Jeopardy’. However, for many eager watchers, the decision to have a fresh host, this time Richards, was a letdown.
Many people believe that with Richards’s controversy, this would be the perfect opportunity to reintroduce LeVar Burton as the host. Unfortunately, Sony has not commented on who will be brought in as the new host and there is no room for speculation that LeVar will be brought back into the mix as of yet.
