Keanu Reeves returns as The One in The Matrix 4, but will he be a villain this time, possibly even controlled by Machines?
We still don’t have any official information on The Matrix 4, but that hasn’t stopped lots of rumor, speculation, and fan theories from circulating. Warner Bros. has yet to reveal the title of the fourth part in the sci-fi action series, despite the fact that The Matrix Resurrections has been mentioned numerous times.
In Lana Wachowski’s upcoming The Matrix 4, speculated to be titled The Matrix Resurrections, Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss (Trinity) will reprise their roles. Given that both died in the original trilogy’s final act, the mechanics for Neo and Trinity’s reappearance remain a mystery. We also don’t know why the two have been resurrected, who they’ll be battling, or whose side they’ll be fighting for.
Reeves’ portrayal as The Matrix’s noble savior has become so ingrained in audiences’ minds that making him evil would be wonderfully subversive. Obviously, Neo will not suddenly decide that the Machines were correct and that mankind ought to be destroyed, but if an outside entity is pulling the strings, he may become a villain. Is it possible that an outside power, such as Deus Ex Machina, is at work?
Warner Bros. announced the fourth installment in The Matrix franchise on August 20th, 2019. We would have watched the movie released on May 21, 2021, if the global health pandemic hadn’t put life on pause last year; chances are you’d be here reading a review or a “ending explained” article. We’ll have to wait until December 22nd, 2021 for the next installment.
