It was one heck of a series between The Battle of Alberta and man the players did not disappoint at all. Even though it was heavily favored for the Edmonton Oilers who did dominate especially against the Calgary Flames. The fans were treated to a hard-hitting, goal-scoring frenzy that took shape in one of the greatest series between the cities and yes, we do hope for many more.
The star players for the oilers shined bright with a dose of exceptional talent-stricken plays that had entertained the fans and put the faint of heart to sleep. Calgary on the other hand did have scoring power, but just did not show up to play the game at Edmonton’s level and were quite frankly dominated in many ways.
To be more exact, the dominance on Edmonton’s part was like no other, scoring goals within seconds and minutes of each other and defending the net, mind you, where some goals made by the flames were somehow embarrassing, to say the least.
The series, however, did have an exciting edge that many felt did shape up the way they expected and of course it could have gone either way for both teams, but overall, the Oilers came to play and have then advanced to the conference final.
For the Calgary Flames, there were signs of promise, but just not this post-season, and the fans did however feel like they were robbed by the referees with some calls against players, as well as the final dagger in the series of game five when the go-ahead goal by the flames was disallowed.
Both cities put on a great show and both teams should keep their heads up with pride.
