‘The Batman’ Spinoff Series to Release on HBO Max


The Penguin, The Batman spinoff series, has been picked up for a series by HBO Max.


Colin Farrell has been confirmed to reprise his role as Oswald ‘Oz’ Cobblepot aka The Penguin in the release series about The Batman character after the actor previously signed a contract for the project.


“The world that Matt Reeves created for The Batman warrants a deeper gaze through the eyes of Oswald Cobblepot,” Farrell shared his excitement.


“I couldn’t be more excited about continuing this exploration of Oz as he rises through the darkened ranks to become The Penguin. Will be good to get him back on the streets of Gotham for a little madness and a little mayhem.”


HBO Max also announced the lineup of executive producers for this series including Matt Reeves, Colin Farrell, Dylan Clark, and Lauren LeFranc who is attached as writer and showrunner.


According to Colin Farrell, the series will continue the story of Penguin right after the events of The Batman. Matt Reeves also said that this series will provide an opportunity to explore the Penguin character in more depth. But until now, The Penguin is still looking to start production. There is no more detailed information about the story plot or broadcast date.


The Penguin series is the second spin-off series from The Batman. Besides The Penguin, there is also the Gotham City Police Department series. Oswald Cobblepot aka The Penguin is a DC comic character who first appeared in Detective Comics #58 in 1941. This character was created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger. In the DC universe, Penguin is a Gotham City mobster who considers himself the number one “Gentleman of Crime”. He is one of Batman’s mortal enemies and often appears in various stories. Penguin appears in The Batman as one of the villains of Gotham and was played by Colin Farrell.


The Batman itself managed to triumph at the international box office in the first week of the premiere. The film has grossed over $120 million.
