Southeast Asian alert, Omnicron has been detected in Singapore

The Covid-19 case of the Omicron variant was detected in Singapore on Thursday (2/12).

The Omicron variant was detected from two Covid-19 patients. Now both are immediately isolated after traveling abroad.

Citing Reuters, Singapore’s Ministry of Health (MOH) immediately traced close contacts of people who had been on the same plane with the two patients.

The two patients who were confirmed to be exposed to the Omicron variant were immediately treated before mingling with the community.

“So far there is no evidence of community transmission of this case,” the MOH statement quoted the Strait Times as saying.

The MOH said that the patient with the Omicron variant was being treated in the isolation room of the Singapore National Center for Infectious Diseases (NCID).

The patient had been fully vaccinated and had only mild symptoms such as coughing and itchy throat.

The two patients landed from Johannesburg on a Singapore Airlines plane on Wednesday (1/12).

They were then taken to a special Stay Home-Notice facility to undergo quarantine pending test results.

Once confirmed positive for Covid-19, on Thursday (2/12), the two patients were immediately taken to NCID to undergo isolation and treatment. Shortly thereafter, MOH confirmed that the patient was exposed to the Omicron variant.
