Soojin (born Seo Soo-jin) has quit the girl band (G)I-DLE amind unresolved bullying controversy that has hounded her since February.
CUBE Entertainment, the group’s management agency, confirmed Soojin’s departure from the group in a brief statement published by the group’s agency via a South Korean media source on August 14, (Saturday).
Their statement reads:
This is Cube Entertainment.
First, the agency apologizes for having caused concern through the controversy associated with our artist Soojin.
Today, we are announcing the decision that Soojin will be leaving the group.
(G)I-DLE will henceforth promote as five members {Soyeon, Minnie, Shuhua, Yuqi, and Miyeon.} We will continue to do our best and provide unstinting support so that (G)I-DLE can show their growth in music and performance.
Thank you.
Despite the fact that the company did not provide any specific reasons for the idol’s resignation in its statement, CUBE apologized for “having caused concern through the controversy associated with [Soo-jin].”
Since February, when numerous netizens accused her of harassing her middle school classmates, ranging from physical to verbal harassment, the singer has been under fire. Soojin originally denied the accusations, but when additional victims surfaced, including actor Seo Shin-ae, who went to the same high school as the singer, Soojin halted all of her activities and has remained quiet since March.
Soojin started his career as a member of (G)I-DLE in 2018 with the song “Latata.”
International fans have started a petition to get Seo Soojin back to (G)I-DLE after Cube Entertainment kicked her out.
