Sony Unveils 5 New Colors for PlayStation 5

Sony has just announced the choice of the cover or plate color for the PlayStation 5 (PS5), in addition to the console’s default white color. Sony offers 5 new cover colors, such as Midnight Black, Cosmic Red, Nova Pink, Starlight Blue, and Galactic Purple.

The Japanese company plans to start selling these colorful PS5 covers in January 2022. This way, players can decorate their consoles to look more attractive. Quoted from the PlayStation website, these five colorful covers will be sold for USD 54.99.

“PS5 console owners can replace their PS5 cover and install a new plate with ease,” said Sony.

In addition to the PS5 body cover, the company will also be selling a Dual Sense controller in the five recently announced colors. It is said that pre-orders for the Dual Sense controller with the new color will be opened in the near future at a price of USD 74.99.

On the other hand, Sony is reportedly going to cut production of the PlayStation 5 (PS5) for the current fiscal year. According to the Bloomberg report, this was done because there were problems in components and logistics.

Quoted from Engadget, the report said that initially, Sony estimated it could produce 16 million PlayStation 5 units by the end of March 2022, but now that number has dropped to around 15 million.

This condition occurs due to the uneven availability of vaccines in developing countries where the main component of this console is produced. As a result, the supply of chips and other components is unpredictable.

This condition is also said to make it difficult for Sony to achieve the sales target of this brand-new console. The report also states, with the scarcity of the PS5, many consumers are choosing to switch to PCs, considering that the holiday period is approaching.
