With many depictions of the Viking storyline. Ranging from the manga version of the famous Leif Erikson on Vinland Saga (2005-present). Hit television series that launches the scenes of tragedy, victory, & debauchery of Vikings (2013). And many layers of medium such as game and also mythological lore on the animation front, such as Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (2011) God of Wars (2018), and Assassin Creeds Valhalla (2020). Comes with an original fictional story of 10th century Iceland; The Northman (2022).

With production starting as early as the year 2020; Robert Eggers chose Belfast and a few spots of Ireland to be the location of the film’s shooting. Filled with a cast such as Alexander Skarsgård joining the ranks of seasoned actors such as Willem Defoe, Nicole Kidman, and Ethan Hawkes. Anya Taylor-Joy is also cast as the main female lead, alongside Björk to name a few.

As we can see on its first trailer and teaser; we didn’t see a familiar studio that usually teamed up with Eggers. As A24 is not the one who will support the director’s choice in producing this movie. Whilst Focus Features regarded as the production house, and Universal Studios in a co-production deal to distribute it worldwide.

The sound designer of this movie could be interesting. Eggers is known to be more of letting the images take the story. From the trailer that we see the hint of nordic ancient drums and vocals shout. Reminisce of Skyrim and 2018’s God of War. That is to say, with its ultra-violence imagery; and also filled with mystified storytelling of old. I think we will have one joyful ride full of gore and vengeance with this one.

The movie itself is set to be released in April 2022.
