Hey, so Disney Plus is making a Real Steel show with the film’s original director Shawn Levy producing it. Today is a pretty good day.
Now, you need to know Real Steel first if you don’t. It’s a 2011 movie with Hugh Jackman and Dakota Goyo training a robot to box. It’s pretty cool, I love it, and it made almost $300 million worldwide.
The problem back then was Disney didn’t know what to do with it, even though it was a hit. There was talk of a Real Steel 2, but Disney has decided to make a show instead. After the success of many franchise shows like Marvel and Star Wars, they finally decided to do Real Steel.
Now, we don’t know if it’s a sequel, reboot, or prequel. It could be its own thing in the same universe. We also don’t even know who will star in it since it’s in early development. They don’t even have a writer. All they have is Shawn Levy coming back.
A while back, Levy said that he wanted Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds to be in a sequel movie, and Jackman showed excitement for it, but we don’t know if he’ll appear in the show. It would be cool, though.
“Well, I’ll say this. Hugh and I definitely are feeling, we’ve never stopped feeling the love for Real Steel, and it’s almost like the volume has been increasing. Hugh and I were together literally last week talking about that. So I would never say never on that, a sequel for Real Steel. Additionally, I’m friends with Hugh. I’m friends with Ryan. I will get them together. Whether it’s in Real Steel or another movie, I will direct those two amazing guys and dear friends in a movie together,” Levy said in an interview with ComicBook.
