Rodrigo Roa Duterte, President of the Philippines, extended praise to Local Government Units (LGUs) for their cooperation and ongoing support in the COVID-19 response and for with the national government.
Duterte conducted his sixth and last state address (SONA) on 27 July 2021 at Quezon City’s Batasang Pambansa Complex with guests who were physically there, and some who join through video calls.
In the concluding part of his address, the President acknowledged LGUs for their willingness to stand up as well as provide immediate support in defeating the COVID-19 pandemic.
“To our local executives, this pandemic pushed you to step up and deliver responsive assistance. I’m glad to have seen you undertake new and heightened responsibility, working doubly hard to protect your constituents,” he said.
Solidarity is the key to fighting COVID-19, both between nations and between LGUs. Duterte commended Filipinos for adhering to restrictions put in place to avoid localized transmissions of the disease.
