Filipinos will no longer have to bring the physical version of their National ID with them soon.
Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Undersecretary Rosalinda Bautista recently announced that the Philippine government is developing a mobile version of the Philippine Identification (PhilID) or the Philippines’ national ID.
The Undersecretary said that any Filipino already registered for the National ID may get their mobile PhilID by linking the generated 12-digit PhilSys Number found on their National ID to the mobile ID version.
However, the PhilID remains a non-transferable card even when the mobile version has launched. It contains all of the person’s records that were collected and encoded in the PhilSys Registry Office.
The PSA assures Filipinos that security measures will also come with the mobile version of the PhilID. However, the PSA has yet to disclose the security features that will come with the mobile version as of the publication of this article.
Filipinos who wish to register for the National ID are advised to go to the PhilSys registry portal to sign up. As the first step in the registration process, those who visit the portal will be asked to provide their demographic information (name, gender, date, and place of birth, etc.).
The second step involves the validation of supporting documents and the capture of biometric information like fingerprints.
Finally, those who have completed the first two steps will only have to wait for their PhilID delivered to their homes.
