Philippine Arena- It is also one of the biggest indoor venues in the world, holding 50,000 spectators inside a completely enclosed structure. Numerous sports, musical, and religious events have been held in the arena since it was opened. The Philippine Arena is located in Ciudad De Victoria, Bulacan, Philippines.
Manila, the capital of the Philippines, has a population density of 12 people per square mile, making it the most densely inhabited city in the world. The Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) hired Populous to create an arena with seating for 50,000 people so that it could accommodate significant religious meetings and events of various kinds. This would be INC’s present to the community—a happy space and a symbol of Manila’s ascent to global power.
It’s challenging to create an intimate setting while ensuring that 50,000 people can see one main point. Additionally, a venue of this scale needs to prevent seeming deserted during smaller events. Due to Manila’s humid, tropical environment and its position in an earthquake zone, the design had to allow huge audiences to enter and depart the stadium swiftly and safely.
Populous designed the Philippine Arena to be a genuine community meeting spot where people might congregate. The arena, which is located in Ciudad de Victoria, a greenfield area north of Manila, was built to hold as many people as possible, with 50,000 allowed inside and an additional 50,000 allowed outside for “live sites” for significant events.
The Philippine Arena, designated by Guinness World Records as the largest mixed-use indoor theater, has played home to events that drew sizable audiences. The arena and its surroundings attracted 1,000,000 people on New Year’s Eve 2014, making it Manila’s Sydney Harbour Bridge. Since then, it has also hosted events like Katy Perry’s performance in 2015 (which drew 30,107 attendees), the Philippine Basketball Association season opener (which drew 52,612), and was highlighted in the Discovery Channel documentary Man Made Marvels: Quake Proof. The segment, which aired in 2013, focuses on the construction in the Philippines that is designed to withstand earthquakes and typhoons.
