Petition to Recast T’Challa Reaches 50,000 Signatures

A while back, Kevin Feige announced that Marvel would not recast T’Challa for Black Panther 2. However, many believe that to be unwise. They think it’s so unwise that they started a petition to re-cast him, and it’s nearing 50,000 signatures.

You probably know, but Chadwick Boseman, the actor who played T’Challa, passed away in 2020 due to colon cancer, which he had been fighting since 2016. To honor him, Marvel didn’t want to replace his iconic role, but not every fan agrees.

T’Challa is a popular character when he hit movies and comics. Black Panther broke many box office records, and now it’s getting a sequel. I can agree that it doesn’t feel right to completely remove him or kill him offscreen.

However, I also agree that they could make someone else the Black Panther, like Shuri. Shuri even had a series where she was the Black Panther while T’Challa leaned towards magic. Whichever choice they go with, I agree with both, but it comes down to how it’s done. Maybe the new actor would do a good job. No matter what, though, there will be a split in agreement with fans.

The petition is up on Change.org. If you believe that they should recast T’Challa, then you should sign. Here is what the petition has to say about recasting the character:

“By not recasting, it could stifle the opportunity for one of the most popular, leading black superheroes to add on to their legacy. The #1 way to kill a legend is to stop telling their story.”
