Oscars 2022: Jada Pinkett Breaks Silence On Will Smith’s Oscars Slap

 

Jada Pinkett Smith has finally spoken out over her husband slapping Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars Sunday night.  

 

This morning, the actress, 50, took to Instagram on Tuesday and shared a photo of a quote, seemingly addressing the incident. “This is a season for healing and I’m here for it,” the quote read.

At the 2022 Oscar Awards on Sunday night, host Chris Rock made a joke about Pinkett Smith’s shaved head (due to alopecia), comparing her to the film character G.I. Jane. Jane, who has a shaved head as well. Will Smith laughed at the joke at first, but it appears that seeing his wife’s unfavorable reaction enraged him, as he came onto the stage and slapped Rock. The comedian, as well as the star-studded Oscars audience, were surprised. The actor, Smith screamed “Keep my wife’s name out your f**king mouth,” all over the theater at Rock after he was back in his seat.

On Monday, he apologized, saying violence is “poisonous and destructive.”

The incident happened shortly before Smith won the Oscar for Best Actor.

 

“This is a season for healing, and I’m here for it,” Pinkett Smith said on Instagram on Tuesday, amid the controversy.

 

Rock has yet to make a public statement about the incident at the Oscars or Smith’s apology.

 

An estimated 17.3 million people were watching when Smith attacked Rock. The audience then fell to 16.8 million but rose to 17.4 million when Smith accepted the award for best actor in a tearful speech.
