La Boetie and Wollstonecraft have various ideologies of oppression, subjugation, and voluntary servitude. The two have similar perspectives on the issue but differ in some ways. However, based on their arguments, some similarities exist between the two individuals. For instance, the two people view oppression as a subject directed at the minorities within the community.
According to their illustrations, oppression is developed by the majority of society and is aimed at intimidating minority groups. For instance, under racism practices, only the minority group is oppressed by certain laws while the domestic race enjoys the benefits of such implementations. La Boetie outlines that the rule of law is being implemented to guide the residents on most occasions. However, some societies have manipulated the importance of the law as they introduce certain laws to intimidate minority groups.
On the other hand, Wollstonecraft has also illustrated that oppression is mainly subjected to a particular group. In her article, Wollstonecraft demonstrates that it is impossible to oppress the majority. According to her illustrations, various communities that stood firm to oppose the intimidation of the public led to the successful attainment of freedom.
Therefore, oppression can only be subjected to a minority group who cannot effectively stand to defend their freedom. Both Wollstonecraft and La Boetie have similar opinions on subjugation, even though their approaches differ. La Boetie underlines that people’s rights are a supreme aspect that must be respected based on the laws and regulations. However, Wollstonecraft argues that rights for women need to be treated equally and their freedom to enjoy equality is guaranteed. Based on the two approaches, La Boetie relies on the law to provide equal treatment, while Wollstonecraft believes in the subjugation of women to promote equality among women.
Based on these two arguments, La Boetie tends to claim justice and equality for all people, irrespective of their group and position in society. However, Wollstonecraft is mainly concerned about the women in the community, which she feels have been neglected. In my opinion, Wollstonecraft tends to forget about some other minority groups, such as the disabled and the elderly in society. Various minority groups face different oppressions in society and need to be treated equally without considering that some other groups require special attention.
Oppression is a factor that has discriminated against the development of different societies. Besides, people of multiple minority groups have suffered due to unfavorable laws implemented to control their operations. For instance, essential opportunities are being enjoyed by the minority groups since the relevant management is considering them. However, professionals and other interested parties like Wollstonecraft need to advocate for equity, which is the only approach that can control oppression, subjugation, and voluntary servitude. The three components are essential for the effective development of society.
