Gerald Pique had experienced success with Xavi Hernandez when he was still a Barcelona player. Now, Pique refuses to disappoint Xavi, who is currently entrusted with being the coach.
Pique admits Xavi’s presence has added to his enthusiasm to look good. The 34-year-old defender has always started as a starter and he has won two and drawn one.
“There’s a kind of added pressure on me because Xavi is the coach. You don’t want to disappoint him,” Pique said as quoted by Marca.
“Morally, I have to give him my best. And when I don’t play well, I feel like I let him down.”
Barcelona began to undergo a positive track with Xavi Hernandez. However, Barcelona will face a tough task against Bayern Munich in the Champions League decider.
Before accepting Barcelona’s proposal, Xavi first started his career as a coach at Qatari club Al Sadd after deciding to retire in 2019.
Together with Al Sadd, Xavi gave many titles to the club and was listed as one of the most successful coaches in the Qatar League.
Pique also spoke about Messi’s departure from Barcelona at the start of the season. Admittedly it affects the club and also himself.
“It’s a very tough thing. We have been playing together since the age of 14,” Pique said.
“I am happy for his seventh Ballon d’Or and that proves he is the best of all time.”
Pique also talked about the possibility of retiring at the end of the season. He said it would be difficult to do.
“Many friends say that everything becomes difficult when we retire. You are used to living the same routine since childhood,” he said.
