Neill Blomkamp, the filmmaker of District 9, has released the first trailer for his sci-fi/horror mashup ‘Demonic’

Neill Blomkamp has released new footage of his upcoming movie, “Demonic”. The film is set to feature “strong sci-fi/supernatural and VFX elements,” and tells the story of a young woman who unleashes terrifying demons. The cast includes Carly Pope (Elysium), Chris William Martin (The Age of Adaline) and Michael Rogers (Supernatural)

Blomkamp and the Demonic filmmakers used a new patent-pending volumetric capture approach, which scans an actor from all sides and re-creates them digitally. It has been compared to the technology featured in the Xbox One’s Microsoft Kinect camera and has been employed in the VR and visual effects sectors. Demonic is apparently using the most volumetric capture technology ever seen in a film, and you can get a good look at it in the film’s new official trailer.

Neill Blomkamp first appeared on the scene as the director and co-writer of District 9, a critically praised sci-fi action film released in 2009. Blomkamp and co-writer Terri Tatchell received four Academy Award nominations for the screenplay, including Best Adapted Screenplay. He then directed the dystopian sci-fi action film Elysium, which was favorably received by reviewers and performed well at the box office. Blomkamp also directed and co-wrote 2015’s Chappie alongside Tatchell, but the film underperformed studio expectations, leading to the cancellation of a sequel.

The first installment of the sequel, Demonic, was released earlier this year. It was a critical and commercial success.

The movie is due for release in theaters on August 20, 2021, and on video on demand a week later on August 27, 2021.
