My Mister is a K-Drama that aired back in 2018.

It is one of the most loved K-Dramas of all time and is included in the top 10 rankings of highest rated dramas of all time.

“My Mister” stars Lee Sun Gyun as Park Dong Hoon and IU as Lee Ji An.

It tells a story of two people who are in different stages of their lives. One is a 40-year-old man and the other is a 20-year-old woman. Though seemingly different in situations, they both are hopeless in life just the same.

Dong Hoon is a married man who is stressed and unhappy because of his work environment. Meanwhile, Ji An is someone who has gone through a lot of traumatic experiences and is hopeless in life.

Ji An and Dong Hoon’s paths cross a lot because of an unfortunate incident in the beginning. However, they end up becoming close and they bond over the hardships of life.

This drama raised controversy over the age gap of the main characters but it has no romantic intentions coming from the older fellow. Ji An does have feelings for Dong Hoon but he does not recuperate those feelings nor did he groom her into liking him.

They were just existing as two humans who have had touch experiences in this life.

Ji An, especially, has the spotlight in the drama. Her situation in life is very sad and she is constantly seen with a flat face but eyes heavy with hopelessness. But as the series progresses, so does her situation.

Her character development is one of the best in a K-Drama and the way she built a support system from having no one was very inspiring. And IU was an amazing casting for Ji An because although she had little to say, we could feel the intensity of emotions in her eyes.

There are also side stories that are going to be told, such as from Dong Hoon’s brothers and friends and some of their own seemingly hopeless lives.

My Mister is one of the best slice-of-life dramas that is more heartbreaking than it is warming but it leaves an impact that leaves you hopeful. It tells you that even in the early stages of life you could lose hope and you could regain it. Or, you can be middle aged and start over when you are unhappy.

It tells you of moving on, of finding hope in every corner even though that corner is incredibly small.

Overall, this drama is something that you should not miss out on. It is heart-wrenching but the ending is worth all the conflicts in the beginning.
