The representatives of the Indonesian team, Onic Esports won the e-sports competition on the scale of Southeast Asia, Mobile Legends Professional League Invitational (MPLI) 2021. The title was claimed by the yellow porcupine after Sanz, CW, Drian, Butsss, et al, defeated the representative of the Philippines, Blacklist International, in the match Grand Final with the best five-game format aka “Best of 5” (BO5). As the champion, Onic Esports has the right to take home most of the total prizes prepared by the organizers, which is US$100,000 (around Rp. 1.4 billion
Talking about Onic Esports at MPLI 2021, as MPL season 8 champions, they got a special bracket in the quarterfinals. Before meeting with Blacklist International (Philippines) in the grand final, Onic Esports met with Alter Ego, another representative from Indonesia. After Beating Alter Ego in the quarterfinals with a score of 2-0, Onic Esports solidified its way to the grand final. Meanwhile, Blacklist International (Philippines) managed to stop RRQ Hoshi’s journey to the grand final with a score of 2-1. Blacklist International actually got the upper hand in the first match with a combination game of Estes and Bane.
In the third game, Onic Esports dominated by relying on Bane and Popol & Kupa, making Onic Esports turn the tide with a score of 2-1. In the fourth game, the MPL ID Season 8 champion again showed a beautiful game with Claude and Natan, so the score became 3-1 while forcing Blacklist International to become a runner-up. In addition, this team also managed to maintain the MPLI title for Indonesia three times in a row. Previously, RRQ Hoshi successfully won the MPL Invitational – 4 Nation Cup 2020 after successfully slaughtering a team from Singapore, Resurgence with a score of 3-0.
