“Mayday! Mayday!”: Burning planes coming PUBG’s way

Last month, PUBG received a significant update that included a new map, Taego, and a Gulag-style second chance system, but the latest update has even more surprises in store, including multi-care packages, a secret room, and… burning planes.

The patch notes for update 13.1 for PC are now available, and they cover improvements to Taego as well as the rest of the game. The “emergency landing plane,” which will surely keep players on their toes at the start of a match, is perhaps the most dramatic addition. It moves quicker than a typical plane and has a variable fall height, so if you want to glide further across the map, you’ll need to jump right at the beginning of the flight.

The patch notes state, “Stay vigilant and pay heed to the flight crew’s instructions, as not every flight is easy.” Didn’t have to tell us twice.

The Taego Secret Room is one of the new Taego-specific features included in the update. This chest is chock-full of top-tier gear, including “items not found elsewhere on the Battlegrounds,” and it opens with a secret key. To get to this particular treasure trove, you’ll have to scour Taego for hidden keys.

In response to player feedback requesting an increase in the number of care package drops, PUBG Corp is adding “additional small drops” to the game. This means that instead of one player receiving all of the loot, other players will be able to obtain smaller prizes from the additional crates. There will be one standard care package, as well as five to fifteen smaller care packages containing items such as ammo, healing items, and throwables, as well as the occasional standard care package spawn item.

The update also includes changes to the Sanhok map, with the goal of “improve movement flow in specific areas,” as well as adding more cover. Snipers have been given significant buffs, and DMRs have been made more difficult to use at range, among other changes to weapon balance.

The spawn rates of Taego items have also been tweaked, with a considerable increase in the amount of Self AEDs and stun grenades. For a complete list of all the changes, see the patch notes above.
