‘Pasalubong’ is a braver version of ‘Pagtingin’

On Friday, July 30, Opm stars Ben&Ben and Moira Dela Torre debuted their highly anticipated second collaboration, “Pasalubong,” a romantic confessional that’s immensely relatable.

Pasalubong’ is the third single of the band’s upcoming sophomore album, and its the artists’ second collaboration following “Paalam,” a song about moving on from a lost love, which they collaborated on in 2020. “Upuan” and “Pahinga” are the next two titles.

The song is about falling for a friend and confessing one’s romantic feelings with lyrics “Pasalubong naman sa aking nararamdaman. ‘Pag umamin sayo sana ay mapagbigyan “Kaibigan, oh pwede bang mag-ibigan”. “Aaminin ko na, gusto kita.”

(“I hope you return to me what I feel towards you. If I tell you the truth, I hope we have a chance. A friend or can we be lovers?”, “I’ll say it, I’m inlove with you”.) The lyrics of the song express desire and uncertainty about a love that may or may not be reciprocated.

Fans of Ben&Ben, known as Liwanag, expressed their feelings and emotions in the song across the social media and encouraged one another to confess to their “crushes”.

According to the band, the song “Pasalubong” was inspired by the title’s dual meaning, which is a Filipino term that is often used to refer to a “gift” and a word that may also indicate “to meet.”

Pasalubong was part of Moira’s second studio album, “Paalam,” which featured a trilogy of songs “Patawad” and “Patawad, Paalam.”

The track was written and produced by Ben&Ben and Moira, with the arrangement done by the band’s percussionist Andrew de Pano and some assistance from Moira’s husband, Jason Marvin Hernandez.
