A very short teaser for the Lexus RZ has finally been revealed from the Lexus Europe YouTube channel. The teaser shows a glimpse of what the new electric crossover line-up will look like. We can see clearly enough to identify the sleek silhouette inspired by the coupe shape. From the teaser video, it can be seen that the Lexus RZ has the familiar Lexus-style spindle grille and L-shaped running lights. There are large inlets at the bottom corner of the front end. A panning shot in the video appears to show the charging port between the front fender and the driver’s door. At the rear, the taillights reach the entire rear, don’t forget the roof spoiler.

One Platform with Toyota bZ4x

The model uses the platform from the e-TNGA, similar to that of the Toyota bZ4X. “It has been designed to provide an outstanding driving experience that will set new standards for BEV driving combining the comfort level of Lexus with superior dynamic performance,” Lexus claims in Motor1. This does not appear to be the case like the Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra where there is an engineering badge among the new products.

Unlike the Toyota bZ4X, the Lexus RZ appears to have a fold that extends from the front fenders to the rear doors. The shape of the rear pillar is also steeper. However, the physical proportions look similar between the Toyota and Lexus models. Given the platforms are the same, the bZ4X and RZ could potentially share several powertrain options. The top version of the Toyota model has a total of 215 hp (160 kW) from the electric motor. It uses a 72.8-kilowatt-hour battery pack. While Toyota doesn’t offer an approximate range, the all-wheel-drive Subaru Solterra can cover about 220 miles on a charge from a 71.4 kWh battery.

Approximate Machine Choice

Lexus has yet to confirm any mechanical details for the new RZ, but the LF-Z Electrified Concept sports a 536 hp electric powertrain that can go 0-62 mph in 3 seconds. The production version may not be that much, but we expect it will pack more engine options than the Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra, which offer buyers a choice of a 201-hp single-motor, and a 215-hp dual-motor setup. We hope that the Lexus RZ can be found at the nearest Lexus showroom before the end of 2022. Later this car will face rivals such as the Tesla Model Y, Audi Q4 e-tron, Genesis GV60, and Mercedes-Benz EQC.

Lexus parent Toyota filed for the RZ 450e trademark in the US, Europe, and Australia last year. In America, the patent and trademark office granted this request in December 2021.
