Judge Says Djokovic Can Stay in Australia

After a judge ruled in favour of tennis player Novak Djokovic, he can now stay in Australia. He has returned to the court for the practice before the start of the Australian OpenBut he is not out of the woods yet. The government is still threatening him to cancel his visa and deport him. So for the last four nights, the tennis player has been spent his life in an immigration hotel.

Earlier, Djokovic refused to disclose his status on his Covid vaccination. But he got an exemption from the Victoria government to participate in the Australian Open, where he is the defending champion. However, during the trial, his representatives told the court that since he tested positive for COVID-19 earlier, he could not take the vaccination.

When the government allowed him to participate in the tournament, there was criticism against the player and the government. The drama gained international attention. At one point, it has been a diplomatic issue between the governments of Serbia and Australia.

Whereas while the court proceedings were happening, Djokovic’s fans protested in Serbia. The player’s parents also joined yesterday’s protest. Federal Circuit Court Judge Anthony Kelly reinstated Djokovic’s visa on Monday. It was pulled after his arrival in Australia last week because officials said he didn’t qualify for an exemption.

Ever since the visa was cancelled, many people have been arguing for and against Djokovic. Legendary tennis player Rafael Nadal said the drama “a circus.” He also said that he was happy to see his rival playing in the tournament.  Just because the court allowed the player to stay in Australia doesn’t mean that he can play in the tournament. Now the government has to take the last call. The incident is only going to be murkier from here on out.
