Jada Pinkett Smith Is Learning to Embrace Her Hair Loss

Jada Pinkett Smith has recently opened up about her struggles with alopecia. The actress took to Instagram to discuss the reality of the hair loss condition.

She captioned the post with a determined message: “Mama’s gonna have to take it down to the scalp so nobody thinks she got brain surgery or something. Me and this alopecia are going to be friends … period!”

She continued the light-hearted attitude as she began the video.

“Now at this point, I can only laugh,” she said, adding, “now, y’all know I’ve been struggling with alopecia.”

The 50-year-old first spoke out about her condition in 2018 during an episode of her show Red Table Talk which also stars her mother, Adrienne Banfield-Norris, and daughter, Willow Smith.

“Look at this line right here. Look at that, look at that. It sort of just showed up like that,” she said.

The wife of Will Smith directed viewers’ attention to a faint bald patch across her head which had appeared “just all of a sudden one day.”

“This is going to be a little bit more difficult for me to hide,” she referred to her shaved head. Jada debuted her new look earlier this year in July, crediting her daughter Willow as inspiration.

She continued, “So, I thought I would just share it so y’all don’t ask any questions.”

Despite her ongoing struggle, Pinkett Smith wrapped up the video with a positive outlook.

“You know mama is going to put some rhinestones in there and I’m just going to make me a little crown. That’s what mama is going to do.”

Jahnavi Harrison, who collaborated with Willow, echoed this in the comments section with a sweet message. The musician wrote: “gorgeous as always… it’s your tiara spot!”

Jada is set to discuss more candid conversations with her mother and daughter as Red Table Talk returns for a fifth season in 2022.
