Instagram’s latest trends and market focus
In recent times, Instagram has been aggressively “streamlining” the video formats on its platform. One way is to combine IGTV videos and videos in the feed in one special tab in the user’s profile. Instagram is also trying to merge video feed and IGTV formats. With a duration of less than 15 minutes into Reels content, specifically in Indonesia and Japan. In 2022, Instagram will also focus more on video format content, especially short videos uploaded on Reels. This was revealed directly by Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri in a video uploaded on his personal Twitter page with the handle @mosseri.
2022 Priorities ????
This next year is going to be pivotal for Instagram. In addition to our industry-leading safety and wellbeing efforts, we’re focused on these four key priorities.

“2022 will be an even bigger year. We will double our focus on video, we are no longer just a photo-sharing app,” said Mosseri.
He added, Instagram will combine all video formats on the platform into the Reels format and continue to develop the product. So far, Instagram does have many video formats on its platform, namely Instagram Stories, video feeds, Instagram TV (IGTV), and most recently Reels. From the information provided by Mosseri; it seems that Instagram will cut the video formats on its platform into one uniform format, namely Reels, as has been tested in Indonesia and Japan since November 2021.
Another 3 Instagram Focuses in 2022
First is the message alias messaging. According to Mosseri, messaging is one of the most important ways for people to connect online.
“And we think Instagram can be the best place for people to connect with their friends about their interests,” said Mosseri.
Furthermore, transparency will also be the main focus of Instagram next year. Transparency here seems to refer to the disclosure of information about everything about Instagram. Mosseri briefly said that Instagram would offer;
“essential access to Instagram data so that third-party researchers can design their own studies and make their own conclusions about the effects of (Instagram) well-being on young people”.
This was stated by Mosseri while testifying to members of the United States Senate earlier this month, regarding Facebook’s internal research leaked by Frances Haugen. Lastly, content creators will also be Instagram’s main focus next year. Mosseri said he would be rolling out several new monetization features to help creators make a living on Instagram.
