In One Touch, This BMW Car Could Change The Colour

BMW introduces vehicles with the BMW IX Flow concept that can change the exterior color of the car just by pressing the button; from white to gray or black and vice versa in a few moments. Not only the body of the car, color changes can also occur in the wheel. It is known that the exterior of the BMW IX Flow changes color by using the E Ink.

Which is the material that moves the appearance of e-readers; such as the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite. BMW covered the car body in a special wrap containing millions of e ink microcapsules (equivalent to human hair thickness). Each capsule is filled with a negatively charged white pigment and a positively charged black. The electric field then causes the white or black pigment to be collected on the microcapsule surface.

The surface of the panel has millions of small capsules, each of which contains a negative white pigment and positively charged black pigment. Electric current carries one pigment and the other to the surface then creates a different feel. Head of BMW Design Adrian van Hooydonk said the BMW IX Flow concept as a research and advanced design project.

What’s in the future as of late for BMW

The BMW has not announced a plan to bring the technology to production vehicles. Meanwhile, project leaders for IX Flow Stella Clarke said the concept could help the owner express their personalities.

“This gives the driver of the ability to express different aspects of their personality or even their pleasure to outward change, and to redefine this every time they sit in their car.”

This concept also makes vehicles more fuel efficient and comfortable. In the hot weather, said Stella, a white car body can reflect heat so that it is able to maintain the temperature of the cabin and reduce the need for air conditioning. Conversely, the black body of the car absorbs more heat and helps keep the cabin warm when the weather is cold so as to reduce the need for heat and ventilation.

“On the other hand, if to make it production; the cost of repairing body damage can be the same as striking it with color effects,” he said.
