“Improvise, adapt, overcome”: Khalid embraces ‘New Normal’, announces Album launch

Khalid drops futuristic video of his single “New Normal” that is a part of his third album entitled “Everything is Changing”. He first debuted the song with a live performance at the launch of Virgin Galactic’s Unity 22 Spaceflight earlier this month.

In the video, the singer depicts his take on the everchanging world we live in, and the effects of quarantine to us as individuals as well as to our social life. He also reflected on personal growth and progress, basically adulting, singing: “You found your way but it’s never enough”. Resolving it in the chorus saying: “’cause everything is changing”.

In one interview, Khalid emphasized that he was “inspired by how I was feeling during the pandemic and the emotional toll that quarantine took on me and my friends.”. It transcribed in the video showing how digitally connected yet emotionally unconnected we are now given our current set-up.

Khalid may also hinted us with his new-found hobbies such as growing his own garden. It was seen in the video that he has a lot of pet plants and it has been a trend since the pandemic started. People searched for something productive to do while at home, searched for purpose, for meaning. Some of them found it on plants.

In addition to his statement, Khalid added that his new album “really takes that a step further with all of the songs centering around trying to find a purpose and a sense of self in a world where everything is digitally connected but emotionally disconnected. As we all come out of quarantine and venture more into the world and try to reconnect with people we haven’t seen in over a year, I hope the messages explored within the album open up conversations and allow people to access their feelings in a new way.”

Everything is Changing drops this fall following Teen Spirit. Details about collaborations and features are yet to be announced.
