The Last of Us TV series is making progress and maybe even changing something major from the game.
The Last of Us follows the story of a man protecting a girl who’s immune to a virus that caused an outbreak around the world. Pedro Pascal will play Joel, Bella Ramsey is Ellie, Gabriel Luna is Tommy, and Storm Reid is Riley. The show also has Neil Druckmann behind it, the original director of the game, and Craig Mazin.
So, the picture that changes a detail from the game comes from Naughty Dog’s Twitter. The game takes place in 2033, twenty years after Joel, the MC, lost his daughter as the outbreak was happening. However, the show will now take place in 2023.
“Fun fact: HBO’s The Last of Us will change its outbreak year from 2013 to 2003 meaning—the events of TLOU will take place in 2023 instead of 2033. I wonder why this change was made?”
A bunch of the comments were confused about the change. Maybe they’re doing it for marketing because it’ll release in 2023. Maybe they did it to keep costs down. No one truly knows the reason behind the change. Some are baffled while others are angry.
I have no idea why they would change it other than for marketing. Yeah, it sounds cool if it releases in 2023 and the pandemic is happening in 2023, but it also doesn’t feel like the year matters a lot. I have no idea. I enjoyed the game, but the year doesn’t make sense to me. Maybe they’ll tell us soon or before the show releases.
