The Tokyo 2020 Olympics are set to debut “Colorful”, a song created by Team Coca-Cola with the opening ceremony. First, let’s take a look back at some of the finest Olympic music from the last five years.

 

The opening ceremony of the Olympic games is an opportunity for the host country to not only showcase the best of its culture, introduce competing countries and athletes, but also to debut their greatest music.

Sochi Winter Olympics (2014) –  ‘We Are All Under the Sky’

Andrey Belyaev, Andrey Shalimov, Anton Mishenin, and Evgeniy Bardachenko collaborated to create this song. The song reflects people’s desire to feel proud of their country while uniting under the Olympic rings for the Winter Games.

 

Special Olympics World Summer Games (2015) – “Reach Up LA”

“Reach Up,” a song performed at the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games, features Australian pop star Cody Simpson, Marc Roberge of American rock band O.A.R., and two talented singers with intellectual disabilities: Bree Bogucki, a nine-time Special Olympian, and Madison Tevlin, a 13-year-old YouTube sensation.

 

Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games (2016) – “Alma e Coração” 

The official 2016 Rio Olympics theme song is “Alma e Coraço,” sung by samba star Thiaquinho and features rapper Projota. The song is a motivational hymn in the Olympic spirit, with words like “Make it happen, fight and win / I keep the faith to walk, and so I go.”

 

Special Olympics World Winter Games (2017) – “Can You Feel It”

Rose May Alaba, an Austrian singer, performs “Can You Feel It” with musicians with intellectual impairments from the group Jugend am Werk (Youth at Work), who play the Veeh harp.“Can you feel it?” represents unity, optimism, and joy in life.

 

PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games (2018) – “Let Everyone Shine”

Insooni, a well-known Korean singer, debuted the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 theme song ‘Let Everyone Shine’. The tagline alludes to the Olympic flame, which will ignite aspirations, passion, and a future that will open up new doors for everyone. 

 

Abu Dhabi Special Olympics World Summer Games (2019) – “Right Where I Supposed to be”

With them, A group of well-known music stars and producers, including Grammy Award winner for The Greatest Showman Soundtrack, Music Producer Greg Wells, and Honorary Executive Producer and 28-time Grammy Winner Quincy Jones, have collaborated to create the official song.
