Cube Entertainment has announced that Seo Soo-jin, popularly recognized as Soojin, will no longer be a member of the K-pop girl group (G)I-DLE.
According to the statement of the agency. It says,
This is Cube Entertainment.
First, the agency apologizes for having caused concern through the controversy associated with our artist Soojin.
Today, we are announcing the decision that Soojin will be leaving the group.
(G) I-DLE will henceforth promote as five members group. We will continue to do our best and provide unstinting support so that (G)I-DLE can show their growth in music and performance.
Soojin has been on break since March, when allegations that she bullied other kids in school surfaced online. Despite Soojin and Cube Entertainment’s denials, actor Seo Shin Ae did come out and claimed that Soojin had bullied her as a classmate.
The confession of the actress was not root of the controversy. It all started when a citizen posted online and said that Soojin allegedly summoned her younger sister and a friend to the restroom and forced them to hit each other. It also added that the idol slapped her younger sister, took her money, and tormented her. The incident apparently happened at Waw Middle School where Soojin and the younger sister were classmates.
Soojin’s accusers did not back down on social media after she adamantly disputed the bullying accusations in March. Cube Entertainment had investigated the claims and filed formal charges at the time.
(G)I-DLE will proceed as a five member group following Soojin’s sudden departure. Miyeon, Minnie, Soyeon, Yuqi, and Shuhua are the current members. In a statement, their company also stated, “We will continue to do our best and provide unwavering support so that (G)I-DLE can exhibit their growth in music and performance.”
Soojin is the newest South Korean idol to face consequences for their youthful misbehavior. This year, members of the K-pop groups Seventeen and Stray Kids have also been accused of harassment dating back to their school years.
Her followers have taken to social media to voice their shock and disbelief since the news surfaced, as well as denounce Cube Entertainment for removing her from the popular girl group.
